Dry Needling
Dry Needling is a tried and tested treatment for relieving pain from a range of different sources in the body. It works by placing fine-filament, acupuncture-like needles into areas of the body called myofascial trigger points to stimulate a healing response. This causes the release of endorphins, increasing the blood supply to the region & causing relaxation of muscle fibres.
Dry needling also triggers a normal physiological reaction by the body to repair the damaged tissue. This process involves the immune, endocrine & cardiovascular systems. Dry needling accelerates the body’s physiological response and natural repair mechanisms.

What are the benefits of Dry Needling
The benefits of dry needling are near and far. Dry needling has a great ability to target the trigger points in your body to help:
• Reduce pain and muscle tightness – By targeting these trigger points, the needles can release tension, inflammation, pressure and chemicals in the muscles that are causing the pain.
• Improve your range of motion – An ability to relax the muscles in your body helps to improve your range of motion. This is particularly important for athletes who require flexibility in their field of sport.
• Improve recovery time – When used in conjunction with traditional physiotherapy, dry needling can help improve the recovery time for injuries by helping pain relief. This helps people focus on doing the required exercises needed to rehabilitate their injury, without feeling excessive pain.
What is the difference between Dry Needling and Acupuncture?
It should be noted that although many trigger points are found in the same locations as acupuncture points, there is no relationship between dry needling therapy & acupuncture treatment. Acupuncture treatment is based on the traditional chinese medicine paradigm & involves placing needles into acupoints in the body. Dry needling is useful in relieving pain originating from many sources, especially local muscle trigger points also known as Myofascial Trigger Points
